Capcom's iconic Resident Evil franchise will receive a new cinematic reboot, set to premiere in 2026. Following various adaptations over the years, this new production promises to be the most faithful to the games, featuring a darker, more realistic tone focused on classic horror. Produced by Sony Pictures in partnership with Screen Gems, this new chapter aims to restart the saga with a focus on the original elements of the 1996 game. The reboot will not adapt Resident Evil 1 by following S.T.A.R.S. members investigating strange murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The director confirmed it will not feature the investigation that leads characters to the mysterious Spencer Mansion, where they discover the horrors created by the Umbrella Corporation.

Iconic characters such as Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, and Rebecca Chambers are expected to be present in the new plot, which promises mystery, tension, and plenty of survival horror. After previous attempts to adapt the saga with different approaches—whether through non-stop action or series—fans are eagerly awaiting a version that respects the essence of survival horror. This reboot could be the golden opportunity to resurrect Resident Evil in theaters with quality and fidelity. We expect iconic monsters like zombies, Cerberus (infected dogs), and the Tyrant.
